flood dream

It is rare that I remember my dreams.

I dreamt of floods, anger, my children being happy despite the floods, and a penguin that wouldn't budge from it's spot despite the flood. It was a bit of an emotional scene that even after an hour it has me thinking.

I'm a bit of hard-headed, so of course when the rain fell and the waters began to rise, I didn't budge and in the distance I noticed a penguin standing tall. I remember the waters began to look like those of the sea during a huge storm with swells that may have been as taller than any building I have ever seen. Yet the penguin stood it's ground. And I sat outside as if I were enjoying a morning sunrise.

A woman. A woman came and talked me into fleeing to higher ground. I listened and began to pack things. When that started to happen, Xavier, my 10-year old appeared. He immediately began to help. This is where it began to get emotional.

It was time to go. We were in the car. Xavier decided to say good-bye to his siblings and to his mom. When he became absent from the dream an old homeless woman grabbed for something inside the car. I became angry. I yelled and cursed at her. It was evil. The lady was frightened by this and hurried away as if I had maimed her spirit.

Xavier returned to tell me that his mom was asleep and that he would just send her short texts, but he couldn't find Jewlia, his half-sister. So I returned to the house to find the oldest. Jewlia, Greg and Aleks (the rest of the children) were tucked inside side-loaded dryers asking if it was night already. I heart fell to the ground when it became apparent that I was going to leave them behind.

I woke taking one last glance at the penguin who was no longer there.

I woke up thinking of the kids.

Psychological Meaning: Water symbolizes the emotional side of the unconscious. To dream of a flood or being swept away by water, indicates that you feel emotionally overwhelmed. These dreams also hint at baptism and rebirth. The fertile, nourishing effect of floodwater may be implied. This dream could therefore represent the start of a new phase of life and renewed personal growth.

Mystical Meaning: The story of Noah, the Epic of Gilgamesh and other myths about floods represent a purging that prepares the way for something better. Everything in your life has been swept away so that you may start anew.
